 Description of Elsey National Park

The 13,840 hectare Elsey National park is easily accessible with a short drive from Mataranka, just off the Stuart Highway via Homestead Road (1.5 km south of Mataranka). The Park envelops the privately owned Mataranka Homestead, which can also be from the same road. While Bitter Springs is accessed by a sealed road directly from Mataranka Township.

Elsey NP has an established camp ground located at 12 Mile Yards, which also has a boat ramp. Boating, canoeing and fishing are a favourite past times for visitors to the park. Various day use areas are accessed by short riverside walking trails. A 1.5 km Botanical Walk commences at 12 Mile yards, and a short loop walk is available at Bitter Springs. A 4 kilometre (one way) walk is also available from 12 Mile Yards and leads to Mataranka Falls.

Picnic areas complete with tables, wood BBQ's, and toilet facilities are provided at 12 Mile Yards, the 4 mile, Mulurak, and Bitter Springs.
