Description of Eyre Bird Observatory
Eyre Bird Obs is an awesome place to visit. It is well worth the drive, even more so if in your own 4-b-4.
The caretakers are informative people that are full of all sorts of info. Just remember to ring first.
The nearest town is
Norseman, 437 km west of Cocklebiddy Roadhouse, 1200 km from
Perth.
Eyre is 50 km south of Cocklebiddy.
The last 12 km is 4WD access only. (It is recommended that
tyres be deflated to about 20 psi to prevent damage to the track).
It is well worth making the time to take the 'back road' to Madura. The area is many ruins of homesteads, wells and dams. Burnabbie Ruins gives some idea of the hardships endured by the early homesteaders. Just remember to let someone know of your plans and ring when you arrive at Madura.
