Planning a quick visit to Kakadu as alternative route from Darwin to Katherine in late June , 4WD and tent . Would like to camp at sites with shower & toilets .Only there for 2 nights .Was thinking one night near Ubirr and one near Yellow Water maybe.
Would appreciate suggestions from locals or recent visitors for best options .
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve

We stayed at four campgrounds with showers and one unserviced, spending over a week in Kakadu, and choosing the Parks campgrounds not fully serviced caravan parks. It depends on how quick your visits is going to be and where the key places you will choose to see are. You can check out My Blogs 2009 for details, and contact me further if you would like to know more.

Hi Steve
When we were at Kakadu last year we stayed at Merl campground which is not to far to Ubirr only about 15 minutes, has showers and toilets, pretty good campground. We stayed at Mardugal near Yellow Waters again not to far also about 15 minutes, showers and toilets, grassy camp spots. Don't miss the sunset from the lookout at Ubirr well worth the walk. Hope you have a great time
Regards
Ken

Merl is famous for mosquitoes just about big enough to carry you away. I showered early afternoon and they still attacked me through the water :O. Still worth staying to to see Ubirr and to take the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise on the East Alligator River.

If you want the option of a pool, I highly recommend Kakadu Lodge just outside Jabiru. You can access both Ubirr and Yellow Water form there (about 30-40 minute drive)

There is also good camping at Gumlon at southern edge of the park if you don't mind some travel on dirt.
