They might have no oil left but the old ones still keep on going.

I reassembled a 1962 Short a*se wreck back in 1988, saw it where I now live (850km from where I put it back together) last year, spoke to the current owner, still in daily use and apart from an axle replacement and regular servicing, nothing had been done to it.

That's LandRover longevity for you.

850 km in only 25 years...now that's motoring along, and probbaly only used a couple of sumps full of oil to achieve.....LOL.

Ah the landrover bashers!!......good ol English quality gets put down every time...lol, ...Funny thing is though my 4.7l V8 landcruiser has cost me more in six yrs for things going wrong than the defender has in 16yrs and it does a lot more work, the cruiser is only a shopping trolley smooth ,comfortable,quiet, a real pleasure to drive, but bloody expensive to own when everything is worked out.
But symbo won't have it any other way, as long as I keep my a''''se in the deefer all is good ...lol.

On ya axle. I recently had my 1994 Tdi disco T boned and written off. It took a runaway car to finally kill it. over 300 000 km, all over qld and NT, towed a camper at 120kmh into the wind coming back from tenant creek to Mt Isa and never missed a beat. After it hit 15years of age i had to consider replacing tyres very carefully , as they were worth the value of the whole car. It wasn't exactly raring at the lights, but in the end i used to bang it up and down sidewalks , drive fully into the tip and generally treat it with less care than any poor car deserved. Oh wait it did have a fault , once it towed a loaded car trailer from Rocky to Cairns and i had to replace a top hose...

Many years ago I owned a 1965 SWB Landrover.

There I said it, I feel much better now.

I worked on many when in the garage, including my own.

Now a few things that old Landy had that the contemporary and later Toyotas, Nissans, Jeeps etc did not have.

It had character. It had personality. It had a sense of humour and last but not least it had a mean streak. Oh the stories that could be told.
