Currently have a base GX prado (so nowt up top). I'm used to falcon rear storage areas, the prado is relatively tiny. Looks like up to is the place to go. All brand new to me. I'd mostly like to take the troop camping remote. By remote I mean anywhere from the mountains just out of town to the red center (plenty of corrugations etc)
Heavy duty roof racks (crossbars) look the most versatile, can put a wire mesh basket on (and take it off) with U bolts. I presume could also use a 'pod'. No doubt can fit kayaks, bikes whatever else.
Alternatively the ARB/Rhino rack style tray/platforms that mount straight into the fittings. These look tougher. Presume wouldn't be fitting kayaks up there later. If this route, not sure if it'd be best to go with the open platform style (without all round bars), the tradie (with only side bars) or the full tray with all round bars. No idea the benefit of having bars all way round, obviously if it's open you can fit longer stuff.
Any advice on any aspect, most appreciated as always.

Currently have a Tradesman Brand roof rack (from Bayswater) on my 120 Prado and it works great, easy to remove, takes about 10 minutes and same putting it back on. Recently did the
Simpson Desert and it was an essential to carry the second spare etc .
