Hi Mick,
I hope all is
well.
The curly barked tree you describe is a Acacia Rhodophleia / miniritchie
These are around 2m high. The leaves are 5cm long and
1mm wide. It stands out because of its reddish bark,
which is continually curling off in small strips. This bark
typifies a miniritchie. It grows on a gravel
hill-side. There
is also a larger miniritchie - grasbyi.
