Rob,
I should have explained about the duals a little better. What I meant was you can tell by the sound if there is a pressure difference between tyres.
I just saw a triaxle tipper trailer the other day and I remembered the burn marks on the body from about 13 years ago. They were still there and that was from a wheel bearing.
As you say brakes can be another source of disaster.
