Any must see places heading towards Fraser Island from <span class="highlight">Melbourne</span>?

Hi all,

I'm planning a trip to Fraser in Sept/Oct 2016, leaving from Melbourne. Just after any suggestions on any must see places to or from Fraser from Melbourne. I have a very capable 4wd that is setup up for remote touring.

Phil, which way do you plan to go to get to Fraser? Will make a difference to how people reply and also how long have you got to get to Fraser? Cheers.

21 day trip - direction depends on what's interesting along the way.

Phil, for the limited time you have, two/three days Melbourne to Hervey Bay/Rainbow Beach, then the rest of the time on Fraser........... two/three days home. Have a great trip.

Hi PHIL

A couple of days between Noosa (Tewantin)and Rainbow is worth a look, I preferred this area than Fraser, it's a lot quieter

This is what I have come up with so far, any comments or suggestions? This will be a "boys" trip, which has become an annual event where we (3 4wd's) take a few friends that don't normally camp or have 4wd's out to see a few different parts of Australia.

Personally I'd use the time you've set aside at Rainbow Beach and use it to explore Fraser Island better. Rainbow consists of a small township and beach just the same as you'll experience on Fraser Island...a nice enough place, but the 2 days will be better spent on Fraser IMHO
