Hey everyone i have bought some extended leaf
shackles for my rodeo. One side of the leaf shackle is thinner than the other. Therefore once fitted there is a 15mm gap at the top where it mounts to the chassis. Does this matter?

Gday
If the new shackle is not the same width on both ends as the old ones , you have the wrong
shackles.

Yes it does matter.
Shackles that allow for any side movement will allow the spring pack to move freely across the vehicle which will have an effect on steering stability.
Also to consider when fitting any non genuine spring
shackles is the effect that this change will have on drive line angles, as it can cause driveline vibrations or failures.
Also, and possibly the most important consideration, is the effect that any changes that are made to the length of the spring
shackles has on the
suspension roll centre, as this change can introduce adverse vehicle handling effects.
There are quite legitimate reasons as to why the authorities consider them to be an illegal modification.
Regards
Athol

Why do you want extended
shackles , to lift the rear up a bit I guess . Do it properly with some new springs .

They are just
shackles. Extended leaf???? Extended
shackles "YES".
The sides are usually a plate each the same thickness.
The width of the shaft section is what is being described in a round about way.
The width/length of shaft should be the same for an RA. Some other makes do use offset
shackles for some unfathomable reason.
As stated above, No side gaps should exist.
Longer
shackles than STD are illegal. It creates a larger sideways leverage on the fixed bush which is welded to the chassis. That is not desirable.

Maybe they gave you the wrong one's double
check the model and see if they can be exchanged. Also you should probably
check what else they're going to throw and see if you need to change other items to fix any issues could be brake line diff breathers
suspension alignment the angle the spring hanger sits at is very important as
well. Yes as mentioned above they are illegal but people have been using them for years 4WD outlets have been fitting and using them for a long time as
well and they are safe to use if everything else lines up just my opinion no
feedback needed on my opinion thanks. In the late 80's a few of us to made our own at work to suit our 40ser cruisers but we doubled the thickness of the plates to 10mm for strength and used high tensile bolts with new rubber bushes they worked
well I changed
mine back out when I sold the vehicle. I personally don't have an issue with them but some do so it's up to you of you fit them or not.
Do you currently have a lift kit under the vehicle. Are you just looking for a bit more height from a standard
suspension setup or compensating for sagging springs.

Batts, Why no opinion on your opinion? This is the land of free speech. While everyone survives without accident/component failure everything is ok. Isn,t it?

Ross Land of free speech what country do you reside in can't be Australia because you may offend someone in public if you speak your mind these days. But that's another story.
Probably because I didn't direct my reply by insisting he doesn't use an illegal item so not interested in all the goody two shoe replies from people on that subject who have never broken the law or so they say that is all. Now back to his spring hangers.

There is a possibility that the OP didn't know that it's an illegal modification, so it may have been doing him a favour.

Bad news, waste of money . $1000 for a new heavy duty set of springs including top gas shocks. I am sure I have read, that where these extended leaves end (opposite end to the shackle) can cause crack in the chassis. If you have towed heavy load eg van, and the nose of the tug went up and the tail down, chanced are the current spring pack is damaged.
