We have two weeks off in February, have Challenge off road camper trailer & kayaks. Any suggestions or thoughts for places to go or is it the wrong time of the year for Vic High Country.

Unless experiencing major high tides in the Creek running thru Talbotville, you definitely won't be needing the kayak.

I go to Tom Groggin, you have about 10km of accessable Murray to Kayak. The Tom Goggin river flats offer a large cleared area for camping and the asphalt is close handy if you need to get out in a hurry in case of Bushfire. Day treks readily accessable to Davies Plain, Mt Pinnibar or down to Geehi to check out all the huts along Swampy Plains or up to Major Clews Hut.

Just a quick warning, don't put the kayak in at the river crossing to Davies plain/Mt pinnibar, just up river from tom groggin... maybe 100 meters down stream of this crossing, is a rather large water fall.. I made this mistake on an air bed, years ago, luckily there were no rocks at the bottom, river got narrower, deeper, and faster, no way out, then over the water fall we went.. scared the bejesus out of us.. Maybe 5/6 meter drop into a big pool.. beautiful area.. enjoy. Odog
