I am considering travelling the Savannah Way West to East next month. Wondering if anyone has advice on the amount of fuel to carry? How far is it between drinks, particularly around Borroloola into QLD? (Ford Ranger pulling Camper trailer)

Darren, more information needed, do you plan to do the whole trek from Broome to Cairns or only some of it? Does your Ranger have a long range tank? Fuel is available at Borroloola and Hells Gate Roadhouse, 380k's apart, then another 175k's to Burketown, Have you had a look at the trek on here, plenty of information, places to stay and fuel stops?

Thanks John,
Yes the whole way Broome to Cairns. I only have the standard 80 litre tank. I will need to carry fuel, just figuring out how much.

I have a Discovery 4 towing a 19 ft caravan. fuel capacity is also approx 80 Lts. I have done from Cairns to Borroloola with no problems with range on my tank. However I carry 70 Lts of fuel for those just in cases moments.
Travelled last September 2022 from Hells Gate to Borroloola after going to the Cape. The Cape road was a prefect highway compared with the Borroloola road. the hardest road I have travelled ever (so far) I am sure there are worst roads just I have not been on them.
So cannot help with info on the fuel from Broome to Borroloola. Best of luck with the trip

Two of the best investments I've made for my two Hiluxes have been the 140 litre long range tanks . means I can always go out confident I can do 1000km towing my trailer (though for margin of error I aim for 900).
And no need to muck around with messy jerry cans of diesel :-)
Enjoy the trip, it is full of variety and interesting sights and lovely camp spots.

We travelled the Savannah Way east to west last May. Road was miserable in parts equal to the Mitchell Falls so called road. We did carry extra fuel "just in case" but never really needed it. I was driving a 200 Series with the standard 134 litre tank. We were towing a 19 foot off road caravan. Make sure when you refuel at Hell's Gate you pop in for morning/afternoon tea/lunch. The staff were first rate as was the home made cake. Essaenially the NT section of the road was rubbish unlike the Queensland section. We enjoyed the trip and were actualy able to visit Lorella Springs.

Now Robert, it would have been so much more fun had you been towing that Tvan :-)
