Hello travellers. Anyone travelled from
Boulia to
Winton recently and can advise on the condition of the road.

Sealed all the way, some single lane, some roadworks. A great scenic drive. Cheers. Batsy

The road from
Mount Isa to
Boulia and
Boulia to
Winton was sealed when we travelled that way in 1998.
Only 12 foot but sealed.

We were in
Winton 3 days ago and had thought of going via
Boulia to Mt Isa, but the Qld Traffic Web site has for a while marked
Boulia to
Dajarra as "Restricted to four wheel drive only", with no further explanation. Seemed to be the same for
Boulia to the NT border as
well.
Our circumstances changed anyway and we took the quicker route via
Cloncurry.
Would seem that calling someone in
Boulia itself, or the
Visitor Centre in
Winton would be advisable.

Hey there! Yeah I just drove down from
Boulia to
Winton last week, the road was in pretty good nick - no dramas. Bit of dust around, but that's to be expected out on the Outback highway.

Jim,
Think the
Lake Machattie Bypass is still in use as there’s water over the road at the Cuttaburra. The Bypass is a good drive, skirting around the eastern side of the Lake. Not sure what condition it would be in now, but am sure Diamantina Shire would have a
grader on it regularly, with BRB coming up soon.
Rest of road is all bitumen to
Boulia.
Bob
