For those interested I finally got my Hilux back from Toyota after a routine job (valve clearences and wheel bearings) went wrong. To cut a long story short it went in mechanically fine - came out with a bad miss and backfire. After much frustration and phone calls they finally admitted it was their fault (they initially told me I was up for a new fuel pump!!) - get this - some dill forgot to reseat a spark plug adequately - it took them a good 24 hours to find the problem. Needless to say they will no longer be getting my business!

Vote with y' feet and tell your friends.

Another dill, another disaster, another dollar what's the world coming to.

Want to hear a GOOD storey for a change. I wanted to check the wheel alignment on the wagon, never had done after all the rough tracks. I asked a couple of local work shops who they used, neither were really helpful. So I happened to be a few suburbs from home and dropped by a place my old man & I used to go to 20 years ago (dads passed on now), they had a real good set up and I thought maybe the guy's (who used to do the alignments) son might be doing it these days.

But no, the old fella himself was still there doing it (only one day a week now), still with his wife helping in the office. We had a good nag about how things have changed etc. The alignment was good.
Price $38.50 incl gst. The blokes now 81.

Here's another good story, i would reccomend these guys to anyone, took the Explorer in to get the injectors checked and cleaned, they were pretty good they said, picked up the car or the other half did anyway, she says she has good hearing, whats that knock dear, what knock, that knock, i don't know, didn't you hear on the way home, no, well i heard something but i didn't think too much about it, sounds like a little end bearing what did you do, "nothing" and she didn't, what had happened was when they cleaned the injectors carbon had broken loose and gone down into the top of two of the cylinders and thats what the knocking was took the car back they said no prob we'll fix it no charge, now i know thats what they should do but most will argue the point these guys no problem at all.

My mechanic is great.

My Rodeo was losing coolant once. Never left a puddle and no visible signs of leaking. My mechanic had it on a pressure tester a few times, once overnight. Never had any trouble starting it afterwards and no sign of water in the oil or anywere.

Anyway he nor I ever found the leak and it just stopped leaking one day. Never had a problem since and that was about 2-3 years ago.

Never charged me a cent for the work and he even managed to get me a new water pump under my warranty even though that wasn't the problem but he discovered it during the work performed.
