To Hiclone or NOT to Hiclone
Ok I’m going to try and evaluate the Hiclone product I bought for my 80 series 1hz diesel.
I bought 2
Hiclones, KI 63 and KI 68 . One was put in the output of the airfilter box and one at inlet manifold.I fitted the
hiclones back in 2002, The cruiser had 241480 kms on the clock. I didn’t notice any real improvement in fuel economy, but Its hard to compare different trips because of the different road conditions, loads carried etc. Each time we go exploring, there seems to be MORE to take. I felt that the cruiser had a little more staying power on the hills though.
On a recent trip to WA (2004) I took very close attention to the fuel economy. I Took the
Hiclones out for part of the trip, after we crossed the deserts, the bungle bungles , and the B%#@&*
Gibb river road. We recorded the following figures:
Hiclones IN
Fitsroy Crossing To Mt Magnet, 3283kms /415 ltrs = 12.64ltr/100kms OR 22.356MPG
Then I pulled the
Hiclones OUT:
Mt Magnet To Port Agusta 3954kms /519.75 Ltrs = 13.1449 ltrs/100kms OR 21.47 MPG (this included the Nullabor !)
Hiclones Back IN
Port Agusta to
Tamworth 1617kms/198 ltrs = 12.2448 ltrs/100kms OR 23.07 MPG
If you average to Two Figures with the
Hiclones In the Cruiser I end up with:
4900Kms/613 ltrs = 12.64 ltr/100 kms Or 22.59 MPG
So the way I figure it , The $298.00 I payed for the Hoclones gives me an extra 1 MPG . or saves approx ½ ltr per 100 kms.At the present $1.30 a litre, It will take me 46000Kms to recoupe the initial cost , and then Its save save save. I currently have 302000Kms on the clock, So I guess I’m I front…….I’ll let your readers decide on the merits of the Hiclone.
