hi guys ,

was just wondering if anyone knows any good and safe places away from idiots around inverell or glen innes that i could take my family fossiking for sapphires and stuff for a few days .i dont mind paying to go and stay on someones property as i know it would be a lot safer than just pulling up at a river on the side of the road on the highway,my girls are all under 7 ,we are very trust worthy and tidy as i am a caretaker of one of the biggest propertys around tamworth .any help would be greatly appreciated thanx

Dont think anywhere is safe anymore. But there is some nice caravan parks in inverell to base yourself at then travel out each day so I hope you find somewhere. I travel alone frequently and look for these places in a caravan and have found that there is a lot of Idiots around that want to hassle and spoil someone else,s life too.

Hope you have fun with the kids take plenty of warm gear its -4 there at the moment.

Love those areas.
Suggest you contact Glen Innes Visitor Info Centre (02) 6732 2397 e-mail tourism@gleninnes.nsw.gov.au and Inverell Tourist Info Centre 1800 067 626 e-mail tourism@inverell.com.au
They'll have all the details re places you can go.
I have a couple of brochures here and these were mentioned for Glen Innes:
Boolabinda Homestead (02) 6732 2215
Pinetops (02) 6732 6218 or (02) 6732 4176
Kingsgate - no contact details. 32 kms east of GI thru Red Range
Dwyers - no contact details. 43 kms SE of GI
And for Inverell:
Poolbrook Gems Fossicking Park (02) 6722 2781
Hope that helps.
Cheers

Hi Stacyb - we have been to 2 of the fossicking 'parks' near Inverell.
In both cases :
They are on a farm.
The miner brings a load of the ore material down to a flat area beside a creek.
You are sifting the exact same raw material the miner works with.
The miner supplies all the equipment you need, plus shade, seats and advice.

Poolbrook - family farm - also allows camping on the site - 02 6722 2781

Billabong blue - day visit only - 02 6722 4154.

For both visits, we stayed at a caravan park in Inverell, and the sites are only a short drive away. Next time we plan on camping (at Poolbrook), as we love bush camping.
Regards...................Keith.
