No matter which "tracks" you take there, it is a maze!! There are only a couple of rudimentary signs. I followed the Hema route a couple of times, and it is fine. Hardest part is finding the correct track out of Rawlinna - you've actually got to go west for a kilometer or two.

But with a good sense of direction and/or oziexplorer, you'll be fine.

Cheers

And its public access despite what the Hema map says.

Phil's right on the money Stewy.

There are tracks going everywhere there and none is better than any other from what I can tell, and they are all prone to lots of nullabor rock interspersed with sand or mud.

Ciao for now
Andrew.

Stewy

I confirm what all have said.

When you drive out of Rawlinna go to the west and then cross over the railway line. The road continues west for a short distance and the veers sharply to the east down a fenceline. Follow that along for a shortish distance and then turn right, through a gate. The track is well defined after that but there are a few side tracks. They all end up at Cocklebiddy though, that is, if you stick to a south easterly direction.

The main confusion is the the 50km before Rawlinna driving south, where station tracks criss cross the Connie Sue. Look out for a faint windrow and that should be Len Beadells grader track.

Have a look at these plot files for the route - Site Link

Must admit when we were out there it was difficult to find the south bound open access track as all the gates we found had "NO ACCESS - Rawlina Station" all over them. Does anyone have a plot file or waypoint of the actual turn off from the trans con rail line...... We had come up from Cocklebiddy and when we exited the track we read the sign on the back of the gate (ie the road in from Rawlina) that said NO ACCESS - we have been meaning to contact Rawlina Station to ask because we wanted to publish some notes for this area.

Just thought this may help - The Plot area I pointed you at had our TAS trip plot (Second last one). I opened it up and grabbed this map image. This is the road that had the gate on it - can others confirm if this gate says NO ACCESS or is the road other use different to this one.

!MPG:12!

PS: You can see our tracks around looking for other accesses.

David,

The road that you eventually took looks the same as the one we took in both 2004 and 2005. We didn't come up to any "no access" gates.
