FZJ105 Centre diff lock

Can anyone help have done bit of research on centre diff lock where is pin 7 located and what does it look like does pulling this wire affect any think else

Hi Oldpop, The plug is located on the transfer case, just crawl under and have a gander (not the speedo at the rear near the tailshaft).

Why on earth would you want to disconect it? reversing a boat or caravan up a steep driveway in low range eh.

Maybe try pulling the fuse, it might be the only thing on the fuse I havn't looked. But from memory it's 30 amp so probably not likely to have other things on it.

LCOOL has a bit about this in the 80/100 series tech sections from memory.

I did it on my HZJ105 a few months ago. Now the centre diff lock only comes on when I want it to. I can now manouvre the camper trailer around the front yard in low range without tearing the place to bits.

Follow the directions in the LCOOL website. I recall an article in the LCOOL site infers that you have to stuff around with the ABS. This has more to do with the desires of the writer rather than any sort of obligation. The fix has nothing to do with the brakes whatsoever.

All I did was unplug 1 plug on the transfer case and weatherproofed the (now disconnected) plug and socket; just in case I ever want to plug it back (although I don't know why I would). Now I have a transfer case that can remain unlocked when in low range.

Piece of cake.....

Hi Oldpop,

Here's a couple of piccies as promised from my HZJ105 'cruiser:



The above pic shows me pointing to where the plug and socket are. You can see that I've protected the raised socket from the elements with tape, cable ties and silicone.



The above pic is just a general view of the area so you can orient yourself. The view is from the rear looking forward.



Here's a closer image of the plug and socket. You can see that I've alo protected the plug and cable tied it so that it doesn't flap around.

Rather than removing the plug under the car, and having to waterproof it, there is an easy fix from inside the vehicle.

Just remove the pin (Number 7) from the plug going to the transmission relay. A bit fiddly to do it, but I think a better option than removing the plug from underneath the car. On the 100/105 series, the transmission relay is a small black box behind the glovebox. Detailed instructions are on the LCOOL site.

Works a charm, great for reversing my caravan up a steep twisty slope.

I followed this info from this site: forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=457327

Here are the steps for the 100 Series
1) Remove the glove box door (two screws on the bottom)
2) Remove the black plastic trim piece at the top of the glove box opening (3 screws)
3) Remove the three sheetmetal bolts holding the main ECU (big silver box). You don't have to unplug it, just move it out of the way so you can get to the transmission control relay on the right.
4) Find the black transmission control relay and unplug the wiring harness from the bottom. This is kind of tricky. There is a latch on the back and you have to pull down fairly hard. I used pliers to pull down and then pressed the latch with my finger.
5) Remove the pin-7 wire (black with blue tracer). The pin numbers are marked on the plug, but they are very hard to see. The Slee offroad site has good pictures showing how to remove the pin.
6) I used heat shrink to insulate the pin and labeled it so next time I'm in there I know why there is a loose wire!
7) Reassemble.

Exactly how I did it.

will do that tomorrow
some of these electronicley controlled devices can be a bit of a test
when you do not have a workshop manual even for a semi retired motor mechanic
over the years I have seen so many quick fixes and patch up jobs that have gone wrong
but this sounds like the right way to go
