I have a 3way gas fridge and tried to fire it up on gas for the first time today it is brand new and works perfectly on 240v but i cant get it to light ....The pilot comes on but when i try to turn it to full power or even let go of the knob the pilot goes out.....It is a press to turn type of knob and you have to hold the knob down and turn to ignite the piezo and light hold it down keeps the pilot light going but when i let go or try to turn it to the on position the pilot light goes out!!!! first time using these types of fridges so probably something simple i can not see if anyone can help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Beau

When I had a Chescold I found that, once a week, I had to clean around the gas jet with a pricker, even though no contamination was visible

Hi Mike

Had my Finch for about five years, and it was an aged secondhand one when I bought it, and I have never cleaned the jet.

My new super blue Chescold doesn't seem to need it either?

Yes the pilot light should stay on.

How long are you holding the knob before releasing it? You may have to hold it on for a minute if the safety cut out thermocouple is not positioned properly in the pilot flame. If you do not have someone to show you how to fix these problems then you should take it to a fridge mechanic, fridges can bow a van apart if you mis-handle a repair and end up with a gas leak.

did you remove the little foam plug in the 1/4" gas attachment at the back of the fridge? Enough gas would pass thru to light the pilot, but not enough to run the fridge!

Beau,
As you have said that you know nothing take your fridg to a gas man and get him to show you the ins and outs of your fridg operation.
There is no pilot light on a normal 3 way fridg as the burner you see just stays alight all the time then increases it's intensity when the thermostat operates to operate the evaporator.
So maybe you just need to hold the button down/in a little longer to the thermo coupler operates.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

>I'm as confused as a baby in a topless bar!

Love that sig :)

As Dodge says there is no pilot light - once the flame is alight that's all you're going to get flame wise.

Ensure you hold safety bypass button down for long enough after the flame has ignited (maybe one minute?) and if it then goes out you have a faulty fridge.

Thanks for all your replies and quick responses this website is the greatest info source for campers on the net..Hopefully i can share some knowledge back one day.Got the fridge working it was me i was turning the knob not far enough and was letting go of it just after the piezo had fired, instead i needed to turn it to full and she is working a treat bit smelly at first (probably because it has never been used paint on muffler and first time heat in some spots ect..) but has settled down nicely now and is running and starting(lol) fine now.
Thanks again to all Beau

G'day nthshorelad,
yeah! sounds like the correct lighting procedure, can I ask you if you turned up the thermostat to No 4, needs that to operate, don't turn it right up. Just keep trying if the van is brand new you wouldn't think your jets would be blocked yet
