I just checked out a site I wasn't previously aware of:

www.cgear.com

They have a new type of tarp (or large mat) which the film clip shows to work pretty well. The bloke pours a handful of red sand onto the mat and it just seeps through, leaving the surface sand-free. He then hits the surface and no sand comes back up through the material.

Looks pretty good stuff; comes in 4 sizes.

Has anybody tried one yet?

Cheers

You have been reading 4wd Action again haven't you LOL

It looks pretty good though, it costs a bit as well.

Cheers Kev

one of these was my wife's addition to our camping equipment... It does seem to work, but like shade cloth can be slippery when in your Irish workboots.

Inteerstingly, you will find that shade cloth has a slippery side & is not too bad on the other side.

Hi Roachie
I have used for some time now shade cloth, works a treat in sand and is a fraction of the cost of that new type tarp.

Cheers

After having used both the shade cloth and the Camec matting I will always pay the extra for the annex matting. The shade cloth is dangerous in wet conditions (yes we will get rain down south here some day.) The annex matting feels better under foot.

There a few distributors of annex matting these days. Some are made from material like shade cloth and I am not sure whether they are any better in the wet.

There are a couple of similar styles distributed by Coast to Coast and Camec. They are similar in price to the one Roachie presented the link for. I have a Camec one I find excellent. They come in a better range of sizes. They both have hemmed ends with 3 eylets in each end. The Coast to Coast models come supplied with 6 nice little pegs with mushroom heads and a puller to extract them after use.

There is also a rubbery one that comes on a roll and you have the required length cut for you. They cost about the same as the ones I like but are much more difficult to handle and are heavier.

G day Roachie

Sure that's not some type of shadecloth, sand just falls straight thru that too.
Our local camping shop in Wonthaggi, has a new product there, that is basically double layered shadecloth, with edging, and has eye-lets already in strategic places.
Comes in a range if sizes too

Now It's too early in the morning to think clearly, and I have to go to work in 5 min, ( rats )

So be good, and if you can't be good be carefull

Cheers Mate

This stuff is like a one way permeable membrane for sand Bucky, take a look at the site and listen to the wanker on the video tell you how you need one.

Looks OK to me

Finally I got the video clip to work, and also had a good look at prices,,, Bloody hell pricey bit of gear.
But the product still looks like a shadecloth, but with one way "technology" ( love that word )

Cheers All
