Can anybody tell me whether the installation of one or more
hiclones to a 3l diesel PATROL has increased there fuel economy. We run a series 3 2003 engine. thankyou

I was talking to someone last weekend who pulled his out and got a refund as they made his diesel Pajero worse.

They don't make Toyota's work all that good either.
I wouldn't give one to my worst enemy.
Cheers Steve.

The site should have a "rude words" filter that blanks out the word if you type it, like Hiclone.

Yeh mate - I reckon one per litre capacity of the motor would be the go. Then the fuel economy will be fantastic. You will not believe the difference the
hiclones make to your hip pocket. Best thing since sliced bread.
But if you want to increase economy to the point where you'll only have to fill the tank once a year then you need to also buy and instal a fi...
Seriously - do a search and be prepared to spend the rest of the day reading the results - almost 100% negative comments.

It decreased mine in my 3L and also brings the turbo in earlier and it runs smoother. Many will say its bunkum but it worked for me.

This comment is either the dumbest ever recorded on the
forum or the greatest hook ever launched !
Have a think how something which impedes the air flow in the inlet to a motor can in any way have any positive impact on a device [ turbo ] driven by the exhaust of that motor.
Believe what you will after spending your hard earned but don't try to con the rest of us that these things do anything other than unload your wallet !

Bonz,
wonder if Ken has actually fitted a Hyclone then taken it out, returned it and got his money back - because he was unhappy ??
I have two fitted, I'm happy enough to leave them there !!
As to his statement "impedes the air flow in the inlet to a motor" yes they direct airflow away from the HOT manifold walls to the centre of manifold, where the air remains COOLER and therefore DENCER, and we are all aware cooler/denser air burns much faster, therefore giving more power & obviously better fuel economy - aren't we ??
( will some-one now dispute the heat/cooling/denser air information? )

Hey Mainey.
You sure know how to flog a dead horse.LOL
I did 14000 km with them in a 1hz motor, so I know for a fact they don't work in those motors, the reason why is, that after the air goes through the Over priced piece on tin, it will have 300 mm to cool down as you say and turn in to dense air, once it has traveled that 300 mm it the has to do a V shaped turn into the inlet manifold, therefore disturbing the air flow that was created in the first place.
With the air flow into the inlet manifold now disturbed the air is now entering the inlet manifold the same way it would have before you put that piece of tin in there, therefore the air that cooled over that 300 mm will now heat up over the next 300 mm as it hits the walls of the manifold and become hot again.
But to humour you I will this afternoon put them in the TD I just bought and do a
test on them in that car.
If they work and there is a difference in the TD I will post them to you and you can have them for Zipp. lol
Cheers Steve.

But I'm sure you really meant ""If they *DON'T* work and there is *NO* difference in the TD you *WILL* post them to me and you I can have them for ZIPP ""
Steve that's good of you, and IF you do send them you can be assured I WILL acknowledge you fulfilled your 'promise' here :-))

No I meant if they DO work and there IS a difference.
I feel safe that they won't work and there will be no cost in postage.
I would be interested to know what you think of my theory.
Of course this is all posted in good humour. ;0)
Cheers Steve.

Mainy, you are correct I have not ever fitted one of these bits of junk, they are a con based on some very doubtful interpretation of 'facts'.
"HOT manifold walls to the centre of manifold, where the air remains COOLER and therefore DENCER, and we are all aware cooler/denser air burns much faster,..."
If you believe this then you will notice a difference ! Cooler air does not burn faster, and are you seriously saying there is a core of
cool air down the middle of the inlet manifiold, somehow insulated from the outer edges ! Really !!
Cooler DENSER air is good for internal combustion motors but I'm afraid you are mistaken if you reckon
Hiclones can provide it. However its your money enjoy the ride.

Ken,
If you believe as you have said "Cooler air does NOT burn faster" then please explain the purpose of INTERCOOLERS fitted to modern diesel motors, they either heat the air or
COOL it to increase the
engine performance.

Mate intercoolers
cool the inlet air to create denser air into the motor. The reason they are needed is because compressing the air increases its temperature making it less dense. The efficiency of an internal combustion motor is a factor [among many other things] of the input compared to the output. Stuffing more air in is the way turbos & superchargers achieve this but unless it is cooled after compressing the air is less dense than air at atmospheric pressure and the results are not as good.
That is why cooler air is better for the engine, making it burn quickly is not necessarily a good thing as it results in all the energy in the fuel air mix being expended very quickly at the top of the power stroke rather than a 'sustained push' throughout the power stoke.
Ken
