Hi All,
I have just got a copy of Shonkymaps on SD and CD. I have tried to load it onto my PC but obviously I am doing something wrong. How do you get it to work. When you put the SD card into the slot what do you have to do to get the darn thing to look at the maps on it? Help me please!!!!!!!!!!!
Matt
By the way as you can probly tell, I am not all that good with technology!

Have you Garmin Mapsource

You'll need it to load Shonkeymaps too then once Mapsource picks up your Garmin you transfer the Maps(Shonkey) across to your Nuvi..

Cheers

i just put them on my nuvi 760.attatch nuvi to computer, download maps, copy them. go to "my computer" look for "removable media" (which is the sd card in the nuvi) and paste! to switch between the maps (which you will have to do straight away or it has them both loaded) click on the "tools" icon, then the "settings", then "map", then "map info" and you will see both sets; city navigator, and shonky. un tick the one you dont need (shonky) and use as normal, when you go off road, switch to shonky!
hope this helps, as mine is the 760

maps are here;
http://www.shonkylogic.net/shonkymaps/

when downloaded to map source, click on shonky maps in the drop down at top left, then use the map tool to highlight the maps you want to copy.

do you have map source?

Are you sure you want it on your NUVI ? I took it off mine after finding it wasn't worth having it.

Hi Kenny,
Presuming you purchased your NUVI in Australia then it will already have CityNavigator installed. I have just done around 6,000 km From Melbourne to Brisbane with a lot of zig-zaging back country travel in the area roughly bounding White Cliffs to Winton to Lightning Ridge. Other then the Bore Track from Camerons Corner and a about 5km inside the Diamantina Lakes park I don't recall losing the road on City Navigator. Also, when looking at gps map co-ordinates before my trip I found fair differences between Shonky and NatMaps. In short, CityNavigator combined with a few Hema paper maps of say - the Simpson etc. and you will get by very well. I was truly amazed at just how good the CityNavigator really is.

Hi Kiwi kia

I did buy my Nuvi in Australia but I do find many roads and tracks not shown on CN2008

It could be that I travel to places that aren't in the UBD

Also you might not know but there is a lot of other detail like mines, dams, peaks, fence line and gates shown in Shonkymaps

I would say there are hundreds of people that do use and agree Shonkymaps are good.

They aren't nowhere near good as OztopoV2 but you got to pay for that.

Ken

Have a look at Thread 54311 (do a search in the archives)
I tried to explain as clear as I could, starting from scratch.
Get back to me if you need more help.
