I've done the internet search thing looking for part-time work on stations around the place for my daughter during school holidays (child-minding, tutoring and general slave duties...), but if any wandering EO member knows of a station either near (? ha ha) Alice or better still Mataranka/Katherine way, any leads would be appreciated.
Cheers

Have you tried Centrelink or maybe Elders or others in the Pastoral business?

Solo Girl,

The Queensland Country Life newspaper has a section with jobs in both Queensland and the Northern Territory (some WA) listed. You might find something there.

Hi
R M Williams Outback mag has a recruitment & training adds.
June July issue page 168.
A lot of phone numbers there of outback stations asking for all kinds of jobs

I was interested to see them asking for boremen & borerunners.
I presume the boremen fix the bores and the borerunners maintain them. If this is so I thought the boremen could do both.

Lachie,

You're pretty right about the boreman & borerunner's duites.

However, on most stations, with a large number of bores, a boreman may be flat out for weeks at a time, just "pulling" the bores, & getting them pumping again, so they don't have any, or little time, for any borerunning.

The borerunners are also busy all week, often doing 2 different bore runs, twice/week. Their duties include cleaning troughs, refuelling pump engines, distributing lick blocks, and maintaining the enclosure around the watering point. They may also be called upon to assist with mustering, pick up other staff or other different tasks.

Murphy is alive & well on all stations, and a problem may occur only hours after the bore staff, have rectified everything. I've found that whenever you have the Bosses visiting, there is always a problem with a trough, pump or turkeys nest. Always astute to send the borerunner around ahead of you to repair Murphy's handiwork, before you arrive with the boss.

Hooroo,
Bob.
Seen it all, Done it all.
Can't remember most of it.
