Icom 400 pro help !

G day ALL !

Finally got my UHF radio. Yes it's an Icom 400 Pro.

Now is it just me, or is it a fact that their instruction manual is virtually useless. I seem to get into endless loops, from pushing buttons, on the panel, and cannnot get out of them.

Plays havoc with my brain.

Does anyone out there know of links, that will allow me to download a user friendly manual, or a site for help.

Cheers
Bucky

ps works well when I get it into the right mode !

Bucky,

At least you have the manual, I don't LOL

Darkie had one fitted when I go him and like you could not work it out so I put my GME in and the ICOM now resides in a box until I can find someone who can show me how to use the bloody thing. It has been programed with a heap of police etc channels but I can't seem to get it to scan the standard channels.

Good luck :)

Cheers Kev

Bucky, is the "endless loop" simply the numbers on the dial continually running. If so it is doing a normal Scan of all frequencies. Press the Scan button and it should stop.

WOW ! about time....GGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr now the unit has confused me...
I will give it a break for a couple-a-days !,,, and try again

One thing is for sure,...... the other UHF's are easy to set up, ...
I hope I will be rewarded.. eventually

Hi Bucky
My pro 400 works beautifully. I two have it programmed with 40 channels @ ++ watts as private channels + police and fire service etc. On open scan it will go through the 40 cb channels + 18 service channels and then through the 40 Private channels. If you take the mike off the hook while on Open Scan then you will be stuck on the channel that has traffic and have to then move back manually to your preferred channel to broadcast. It will tell you in the book how to set on Priority scan. If you select say channel 40 and priority scan you can listen to all the traffic but as soon as you take the mike off the hook you will be back to channel 40 or your desired. It is imperative that the mike holder is earthed for this to happen. Hope this helps.
regards
Guy

Guy

I have had all that offered to me, and it has been done, but all just dumped in..

Can get it one day and not the next, that's the problem.

A local "chic" has offered to tidy it all up, so that should help..

Just another question, I have been through the settings, and the only thing that appears different to the "suggested settings", in the manual is the squelch....
Mine is at 50.... seem to get a lot of static.!
Is this too low.. and are there any other "settings that I should change to clean up the crap, or is it a matter of just upping the squelch ???

The other thing that I can't get my head around is those bars, on the bottom... What do they indicate, ?... or do I just keep reading the manual... over and over and over..whilst the radio is on ...more loops ?

Cheers
Bucky

Greendog

Just mucking about with it !

Tell me about it...

Need another hands on lesson, trouble is the bloke who took me thru it, was pressing buttons too quick... I think he was just showing off...

OK , I'm a little slow sometines, but its a whole lot harder to pick up.. But I supose if I want the best, then I have to take a bit longer to learn it ..

Cheers

The squelch setting at 50 is too low from my experience,I have programmed quite a few of them and usually set it at 70 +.

I recon I will just keep it going up higher, 5 units at a time, till I can cut out all the "tail end traffic".

I am not too sure what all the other settings are, but as I said before, I will just stick to the recommended, as per the manual, unless there is a dedicated site that I can get settings, and try them.
