Throw away your Hiclones, Fitches and all those other fuel savers here is the latest attempt to separate fools and their money. Contains the usual carp about hotter burning fuel, this time it is achieved by 'molecular separation'
Can't wait for it.

I thought we were all born with the most effective fuel saving device...........a right foot!!!
I dont tow with a big 4wd, a falcon wagon does me ,but the consumption difference between 85-90km/h and 110km/h proves the right foot theory for me.
Maybe I should try selling lightweight right feet on ebay, wonder how I'd go?

Some time back someone on Ebay was selling a block of wood that you place under the accelerator pedal as a fuel saving device!

A quick google search on 'Fuel Saver Scams' reveals that these are a common scam under many names. Don't fall for it.

Hi Ken
I'm almost to embarrassed to admit it but I fell for these when i had my old pajero. I put two on as advised, and really don't think it would have made a difference if i had installed ten, it made no difference what so ever. They are easy to fall for though, i remember thinking that for fifty bucks i didn't really have to much to lose. Would have been better off throwing that fifty towards a good bottle of bourbon, at least then i would have seen something for my money....

Interesting gadget considering the fixed fuel lines in most modern cars are steel.

I wonder how much of the "FuelMaster's unique magnetic circuitry" actually gets through the steel walls to the fuel?

Won't argue with you mate, I thought the one's in my Troopy were steel.

Could be a mix?

Have a goodun,

Hi Ken,

A couple of things come immediately to mind after reading the e-bay link:-

"FuelMaster's magnetic field penetrates the fuel line, causing clusters of hydrocarbon molecules to separate. "
Now I did Physics and Chemistry to 6th form level and a bit more at a tertiary level a looong time ago, but I'm pretty sure that hydrocarbons aren't magnetic, at least in the form being referred to here. Therefore, how can a basic magnet cause them to separate?

"...I'm easy on the accelerator ..."
Now THAT will get you more fuel economy than any black magic fuel saving device.

"..., I draft larger vehicles,..."
I wouldn't buy anything from this person as they're going to be featured on the 6pm TV news as the latest highway fatality, probably very soon.

Thanks, but I think I'll save my $$$

Cheers,
Fuel Sceptic (aka Chris)

Hi Chris, yeah I had quite a laugh. Throw in a bit of pseudo science and to most people it can sound plausible.
The magnetic properties of fuel I'm not sure of but it would be safe to say that it is not particularly magnetic and any magnet capable of 'separating molecular bonds' would be pretty dangerous to be around !

Daniel, good to see someone with the guts to admit to trying this sort of product, and at $50 it wasn't too expensive a lesson.
The thing that always amazes me with this sort of product is that it is never produced by any major automotive manufacturer, either of vehicles or accessories, they never seem to have any independent verification of results and only demonstrate any benefit in tests done by the seller.

Correct ,fuel is not magnetic. If it did have an effect on the fuel as it passed through the magnetic field ,it would go back to its previous state when it left the magnetic field.

Its kalso very telling how some gizmos like the Hiclown say the fuel has to experience turbulence to break up the molecular structures and others like the magnet type say the molecules must be polarised to burn better.

Its about time the govt forced these crooks to prove their claims scientifically

WOW! I've already saved!

By NOT buying it!

Price with postage: $37

Diesel at around: $1.32

Current consumption average: 9.2kpl (10.8lhk or 26 mpg)

So by not buying I have achieved about an extra 258 kilometres.

Bonus!

None of the ebay feedback says anything about how effective the product is from what I see. Except one - neutral saying that they couldn't duplicate the claimed results.

As the say, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

"The majority of taxis and trucks are already using FuelMaster." Yeah right!

Ken,
This salesperson 'drafts large vehicles'?

I drive mine.............don't know how to draft it but I guess he must still have some snake oil in his system when he wrote this.

I think it's pretty irrisponsible for him to say with one fitted you can use regular unleaded in a car designed to run on high octane premium only... wonder if he will pay for your burnt out pistons and valves to be replaced?
If only he had included crystals with his magnets, then it would have worked as well as Brocky's endorsed scam... remember that one? My dad still has his as a joke of how he believed the great man.
