hi all, looking into
the spot messenger advertised in EO
shop.Has anyone bought or used one and are they compatible with the new epirb frequency ? Iknow the connection costs are a bit exy but still much cheaper than a decent sattellite phone. Any help or advice will be passed on to the finance dept for approval.
Thanks, Humie

I have been running SPOT for a few months now. I love it. It combines the emergency function (similar to Epirb), but it also allows your friends & family to follow your travels via viewing a map detailing your sent positions.
The annual cost is very reasonable, and remember there are no user costs on top of the annual cost.
Not sure of the relevance of compatibility with epirb frequency. SPOT uses its own sat phone link and forwards any 911 calls to emergency
services.

Son's work just bought 6.
Planning to buy more.
They are given to people going to site as an emergency backup, and for backup comms.
Could be anywhere in eastern Oz, as they do a fair bit of geotechnical work.
