well after going to and from Wee Jasper the engine light came on just 1.5hrs from home, funny thing was that the turbo boost gauge that we fitted last week was spiking at well over 25 under load then backing right off, coming good for a bit, spike again, etc etc etc etc.......yadda yadda yadda......anyway, while being able to watch the boost gauge we saw that we had no boost after the light would come and and eventually it would come back to normal - that would explain our "loss of power".......

so its down at the mech's now - and as usual we couldnt get it to the mechanic with the light on, and once we had stopped for 30 minutes and given it time to cool down the light wouldnt come back on.

So, turbo an issue and not a sensor??? maybe???!!!!

so next, well.....its the turbo boost control gauge and more on fair trading!

Grenade is the correct word.
Hope you have better luck than others who had the same problem.
For some it was as simple as cleaning the oxy sensor. Try the Nissan site they would be of much further assistance.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Ive read bits and pieces of this forum and some have same issues, some dont, some do the same repairs as others and some dont.....not an easy thing to go by.

This sounds like the ECU is doing the right thing - to a degree! When the turbo overboosts (25psi is way too much), the ECU opens the vanes on the turbo to stop boosting. Normally you do not get an error light/code for this and simply taking your foot off the accelerator cancels the overboost signal and you are back in business. One often sees this as a lack of power, they take their foot off the accelerator and all seems normal again - is confusing if you don't know what is happeneing.

What I do not know is if you exceed the overboost by too much, if this logs an error code/warning light and requires an engine shutdown to reset - from the sounds of your problem, it may do.

Has anyone fiddled with the turbo vane connector rod or max boost adjust screw on your engine? When one blocks off the EGR, the engine now produces too much boost so the boost adjust screw needs to be turned down (I had to do this on my GU). But if someone adjusts this to try and give more boost (equivalent to turning up the wastegate pressure on a 4.2GU), the ECU measures this higher boost pressure and now opens the variable vanes - net effect is a loss of power after a momentary increase.

For my money, I reckon that your EGR valve is sticking (can happen when hot) and resulting in high boost. You could also have a faulty MAF sensor (not unusual) as well. Combine these two problems together, especially if someone has fiddled with the max boost screw and you will have a frustrating, intermittent, problem.

If it were me, I would replace the MAF, block the EGR and if still overboosting then turn down the max boost screw. Until you stop the high boost pressure you will not solve your problem.

the foot on / off accelerator doesnt help in our case...also came up as fault code 77

Hmm... 77 is not listed, however 0707 is

"0707 Fuel Injection Timing Control System
Circuit malfunction, Injection Pump Control Unit failure, Poor fuel quality"

If this is your problem, looks like it may be a fuel pump issue. Or it could be as simple as bad fuel, but given the length of time you have had the issue, i doubt that.

yeah that could be the one, Nathan just said it was 77.....the last time was code 82.....so 0802?????mmmmm.............

yeah I doubt that too......no wonder I couldnt find any info.....!!LOL!!

Captain, found on patrol forum that 0802 was ECU in one thread but most others are saying what your saying, but all seemed to have had it in the 2.8lt not 3lt...should be the same thing hey??

doesnt the maf sensor control the elctronic boost on these motors?what kind of air cleaner is being used , the reason i ask is that the maf sensor is an hot wire and if it gets contaminated it sends the wrong reading to the electronic boost

i just had one at work with an after market oiltype filter and maf was not working real well and turbo boost went astray

oh yeah, the ones that get soaked in that oil sticky stuff before putting them in??? Nathan used that type on his dirt bikes a few yrs ago.
