Hi all,
I'm wondering if any
Brisbane people on here know of some good
suspension shops that are handy with leaf springs, preferably on the south side?
I've recently bought a 79 BJ40 Landcruiser and the previous owner had fitted new springs, shocks and some longer greasable
shackles. I knew the shorty cruisers tended to bounce around and l figured
mine was alright. A mate recently looked it over and pointed out that my front and rear
shackles were vertical, which apparently is not ideal and hence my little truck bounces around like crazy! I've been told l should replace a couple of the top leafs with slightly longer ones to get the
shackles sitting right.
I've had no experience with leaves and
shackles but does this sound right?
If anyone knows of some
suspension gurus I'd like to hear. Or should l just go down to the nearest Pedders??
Thanks in advance,
Dan

home and see what they can do for me.
Cheers,
Dan

Try ARB at 988
Beaudesert Road Coopers Plains for a set of OME, you won't know it's the same vehicle,

Hi Dan. Just a thought. If the previous owner has fitted heavier springs then they will possibly have more leaves in them making them ride harder. If you could compare them to standard that would give you an idea. If there are extra leaves it would not be too hard to remove them. this would lower the vehicle a touch, move the
shackles out and make the ride softer. You would need to make sure that the shocks compress enough to allow for the new upward movement of the spring. May be a cheaper way out of it. bob

Hi Bob, the spring packs on at the moment do not look to me like heavy duty ones. I think they were fitted just to replace the original springs and then the
shackles were fitted to get a bit of lift. They have fitted castor wedges and EFS shocks at the same time, so it appears to have been done properly. The top leave in each pack just looks too short and l think with slightly longer ones it will move the shackle forward a bit and fix it. Hopefully.
Thanks for the tip though!
