<span class="highlight">Generator</span> Power Feedback

I said I was a new traveller & my question has proved it.
I should have said that I was looking at buying a generator or installing solar power to my caravan to allow for free camping etc.
Wind Power came up as a possible alternative.
But I know very little about generators my knowledge of solar power and wind power is a long way below that

Wind Power is often used to recharge or maintain battery charge, if you want to run an air conditioner for example you would need a generator. A generator is needed to power larger appliances, wind power is for keeping the batteries charged etc in typcal motorhome scenarios.

I will now research both generators and Jayco wind power
I have been advised that I should only buy a Honda generator and not one of the cheaper copies (allegedly from the same factory in China)

I recently bought a "cheaper" inverter generator from Ebay (adventurerscorner) and when it works, it works OK. However it is hard to start - requires 60-70 pumps on the fuel primer despite having a full fuel tank.

First the remote start died, the seller promptly supplied a new remote sender and receiver (no instructions) but it failed to fix the fault. They ignored my email about this. Then I was using it a few days ago (manual start) and it wouldn't switch off, even though I could turn the switch and remove the key - I had to turn the fuel tap off and wait for it to starve.

Their reply to this was for me to pack the generator and pay for it to be sent interstate so they could charge me $159 to fix it.

Keep in mind it has been run about 1/2 dozen times, not yet used seriously and is only a couple of months old and cost over $900.

As they (adventurerscorner) are now ignoring my emails, I will have to take this up with the Office of Fair Trading. Not impressed.

So yeah, stick to brand names, and responsible sellers.

Yesterday a called into a 4WD specialist ( very large brand name) and discussed their less expensive generators with a salesman. He said they were a good brand but when I told him I had been told to buy a Honda> he said they were the best and he had one and wouldn't go past them> though he did say the new Yamaha seemed to be a very good option
I will call on the two dealers today and get their feedback

I have now read hobohome articles about wind power and found them very useful. Though it does seem that a degree in electrical engineering or having a friend who understands all of the technical stuff is vital.
I will talk to a few people in Townsville and try to get my head around it
