hello again, have a new 3ltr diesel patrol, common rail. goes great but seems to have a very non linier excel pedal responce. zero to 3000rpm is instant with aprox 5mil of pedal movement. this makes it very difficult to maintain a steady low speed eg 50klm. my wife finds it ok, as she drives in a much lower gear and runs at 2.5 to 3000 rpm previously had a 4.2td and may be my driving style. will have car back to dealer on friday and wonder if this is a characteristic of engine, or faulty. spoke to salesman who indicated turbo had loads of boost, but i dont believe it reachs this point as we are just off idle. your views would be apprecieted before i front the service dept thanks again bill

Hi Bill, I'm not a 100% sure what you mean but mine seems to have boost from Zero Revs onwards. Driving at 50kph in 3rd gear is in the 2500 to 3000 rpm range and requires little throttle in mine too but I don't see this as any kind of problem.
I hope there is nothing wrong with yours.

Fly by wire throttle, ie a sensor on the pedal, tells the computer that the pedal has moved, then the computer tells a sensor on the throttle body that the pedal has moved and to give it some air thru the butterfly and in turn tells the pump to give it some juice and away you go.
Cables were much more precise.

Yours may need recalibrating, drove a new rental that was worse than yours, just touched the throttle at any speed and it either died or changed down two gears and took off...very unpredictable.

Cheers
