Supercheap 800W Inverter <span class="highlight">Generator</span> $359 or Old Honda??

Two comments: first, a decent 800W inverter, if it's a real sine wave inverter, would probably cost you more than $359, just for the inverter, so how good is the quality of this offer?
Second, a 650w Honda is a relatively small unit (like about 500w continuous) so you should ask if that is big enough for your needs. Is the Honda EX650 an inverter? how good is the voltage control? is it a pure sine wave?
How long it will last is only part of the story: what is the electrical quality of the output? You have not mentioned voltage stabilty, frequency stability, and these things really matter.
There's a good article on this site about these questions. About the only simple thing I can say is that aren't ant simple answers!!

I would take the old Honda ,Yamaha or any Japanese brand over the supercheap special.

I had a post on here a few weeks ago of what a non inverter generator can do to a portable fridge when hook up to a cheap generator. The voltage spike was unreal when tested. The advice from our technician at work is these type of generators are only safe to use for lighting. If it is not an inverter type generator, under no circumstance connect a computer, tv, or portable fridge to that generator. The damage it could cause to modern electronic components will cost you many hundreds of dollars for repairs, or even replacement. Engel produce their cheapest inverter type generator for under $1000. It would be cheap insurance to spend the extra dollars for an inverter type generator and give you peace of mind when running more than just lights.

These are invertor generators!!! I would have one but there only 800 watt, a bit light on Output for me.

Everyone has raised good points so far.

I know from expereince that a noisy generator, ranks just below a noisy group of teenagers for destroying a great camping expereince.

I have had a 2200cx Honda at 66 DB but moved to a EU2.0 Honda at 54 Db. This is only 12 Db and that does not sound much but is a great number at 10.30 pm in a camp spot.

Noise level might be a consideration if you are planningto camp near other campers. You have the right idea however in asking everyone.

This is a 4 stroke 800W Inverter (safe for electronics) generator that looks like a Honda e10 for $359 with supercheap warranty backup. Unless you want to run air con or heating it will do all you want for camping purposes.

I fail to see how this cannot be a bargain and have just rung up to put one on lay by to replace my 5 year old $98 750W GMC that is far from dead, but noisy and harsh on the appliances.

I Bought one and it ran fine , except when I would run a 3 stage charger it would constantly rev high and low. Which was annoying. Just a little to noisy for camping . So I sold it. Otherwise if it was`nt too noisy I would have been happy to keep it.

i picked up one of these little inverters last time they had them on special and so far can't complain to much. having seen the honda inverters in action on the job they don't really compare but they also don't compare on price.the supercheap job i have run's a bit louder than the Honda and does not run as smoothly, i think the mixture needs adjusting a bit also.but it runs our fridge and lights in our jaydove camper on short trips with out a problem.so far so good,only time will tell, and usually things don't break down until the day after the warranty runs out.don't forget they recommend using a surge protector with it also. hope this helps.
