Hi all,

I have 3 and half days to kill in the Eastern Goldfields starting from Kal and ending up in Laverton.

I been down the Connie Sue, been to Queen Victoria Spring through Yindi and visited Lake Yeo..

I'll probably visit Plumridge Lakes, Mount Luck and Lake Rason however is there any other "must see" places when I'm in the area?

Cheers
Alan

Hi Peter,

I saw them both coming back from GCR last year. The dam is a pretty fine piece engineering out in the sticks; We were the only customers at the Pub - the beer tasted nice too!!!

Cheers

Hi Alan
Include The Lake Rason Area in your trip, as you could spend that time there alone. We will again be visiting the Lake Rason Area. Lots to see and poke around. Mallee Hen Rocks is well worth the drive in. Also the 7MM Hut should have been rebuilt, that is a real home away from home. Around Laverton there is Hanns camp and other interesting place like Albert Rockhole.

You should get more replies from other travellers of that area.

Cheers

Try the golden Quest discovery trail. The guidebook should be available either from the tourist beureu or newsagents

Ive marked a coule of extra spots on there A being breakaways at the nth end of Wangine lake

and B being the Anthony Gormly satues on lake ballard

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r308/wudinna/IMG-4.jpg
other features being the broad arrow pub

and historic ora banda pub with its shady past

as well as old mining centres and ularing soak

The Woodlands around the area consisting of blackbuts, gimlets and salmon gums will make a welcombe change from the desert to the East

When at Kookynie ask at the pub for the mudmap to nearby granite rock formations such as
split rock

balancing rock

and others

Alan as part of Australasia Safari last year I had the chance to travel around Lake Minigwal. If your coming from Kal, head up via the Kurnalpin Pinjin Rd to the Nippon Hwy then North to Lake Minigwal. The area abounds with rock holes, and Gnamma holes and old abandoned mines and communities.
Around the lake has some fantastic scenery as well.

Hi Dunc,

I will check it out, as the route you mention is roughly the way I was thinking of going.

Regards
Alan

righto - heres a cutn paste from a while back - if the directions look dodgey then follow your nose from the map

Hunts pinnacles
After Seeing these Pinnacles onmy previos trip to Queen Victoria Springs I decided to go for a look
I took off from kalgoorlie and headed n/e along yarria road past kanowna belle Mine and then the Hills which make a good playground. Just after the hills it is east onto the Kurnalpi pinjin road until (all 51j) e 437829 n 6626541 where there is a grid and you turnleft following the fenceline until e437476 n6628665 where you come to yowie rockhole and turn r through an open gate onto an old telegraph line. e4445588 gilgarna rock and rockhole kso until e445591 n 6644036 where there is an open gate but you head left (n) if you go straight on you rejoin the Kurnalpi pinjin road. e443803 n 6620269 there is a tank alongside the track and looking to your left is Hunts Pinnicles you drive accross the samphire salt pan to get to it e442633 n6649896. They are a series of steep hills grouped together that tower above the flat soroundings with breakaway formations at there base and caves higher up with a cairn atop the highest pinnicle. This trip is easily do able as a day trip from kalgoorlie or can be part of a longer trip to Queen victoria Springs

hers a pic from the telegraph line which gos to old pinjun (well worth a look in itself.

the pinnacles are maybe a bit less impressive than they sound but are an interesting diversion in a pretty flat area

id scan some pics if i was home. You can see them off in the distance from gilgarna rockhole and i new i had to have a gander

Hi Alan, I will be heading out to the 7MM shack this week, should arrive Thurs afternoon, and spending 3-4 days based there. When are you looking to be in that neck of the woods Alan? I'll make sure to have a couple of coldies. Cheers, Kanga.

Hi Kanga - MM sent

Lionel,

It's hardly a little place :)
I remember walking back from the pub in the nineties when I working in the area, always avoided the place - one of the commandments you know - do not yield to temptation, something like that!!!

Cheers
Alan
