Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Hi ingo57

you can't fit a child seat in the middle when you have a split seat, if you had an accident there is a chance the child restraint would slip down between the seats, so it would not hold them in place!
I think you can have a bar fitted across the back of the seats to fix the baby restraint to but i think they are very expensive.

Yes mate, the split in the seat does propose the problem however currently I have the centre one sharing the drivers side anchor point as well and have found this is the only way to avoid the split in the seat, however this arrangement is in "no way legal".
I was kinda hoping somewhere in the roof may be an option, although there is nothing visible in the roof lining.

Ingo57, If it is not legal, is it safe?
I have no idea if what you have done is safe or not, but whatever you do make sure that it is legal and safe for the little one.

Mark,

The seat is very firm and rigid as the other two and the straps do not fall into the slit of the seat however it is hard to simulate the force of an accident.

I found this on another forum asking the same thing,

I have three (all under two) in the back of my 05 GU. I had an extra harness point fitted to the roof just to the left of the top stop light. There is a clip which holds up the roof liner. The installer removed the clip and fitted a spacer into the section to help spread the load and then screwed a high tensile bolt into the spacer. Not a very difficult job, but the modification required a certificate and modification plate to be fitted to the vehicle. I think I paid about $180.00 for the job. In my mind the money was mostly for the paper work and the certificate.

This was from a couple of years ago. No mention of who did the job, other than Melbourne.

Other alternatives were crab bars

ring this mob (no affiliation)
Automotive Restraint Fitters Australia 02 9603 3902.
They do a bar across the top of the seat at the back that you hook the anchor points onto. We get them all the time for our Prados and Taragos.
There a wholesaler but they should be able to steer you in the right direction.
Just remember fitment of any child restraints that are not fitted by a registered fitter will be illegal.

Thanks Steve,

will givem a call today!

The seat is still restrained to an authorised anchor point, just is not directly behind the seat. But it has to go on that angle to avoid falling into the split of the seat. Regardless I would tend to think It would be Illegal to share one anchor point with two baby seats.

you want a CRA Bar
Goes between each side of rear cargo area and has three restraint points on it. Fits just behind cargo barrier if you have one.
Also used when fitting drawers as they cover restraint points
Around $300 fitted

We had a third anchor point put in our new Patrol only two months ago by a certified guy. It is located on the floor between the other two. The split in the second row of seats only poses a problem with certain child seats and their belt location. I understand we will have to be careful when choosing a cargo barrier. The job was engineer approved and cost only $70.00 plus $16.50 for the modification plate.
