"""" Re: Inverters SAFE???
This is an excellent thread and I hope it continues to be read and expanded and understood.
The problem can now be overcome with the installation of a Universal RCD comprising a Double pole RCD joined to an IFS (Intelligent Fail Safe) which is base on new technology from Protectelec an Australian R&D Company that patented the technology.
The double pole breaker that is required by law to be fitted to all Transportables termed in AS/NZS3001 can be replaced with the URCD now approved for use Australia wide with the approval number NSW24815.
This combined unit will activate on an MEN Mains Power System by RCD in 30Ms and will activate on an Isolated Power System Generator in 5Ms.
This combined system reads both earth faults (Current)and Active neutral faults (Voltage).

So you can plug your generator into the input plug on your van with safety assured.

If you have a hard wired generator and or a hard wired inverter or both plus mains capable of supplying your total requirements then your power from multiple sources could come to a rotary switch to select the use which then supplies the power via the URCD protecting you regardless of what you are using.

If you have a Combi inverter charger with bypass for mains then the URCD could be located after the Combi to cover both applications.

If you have a small stand alone inverter that only supplies partial loads then it should not be wired into the genaral supply and can be fitted with an RVD (Residual Voltage Device ) that gives it protection then it can be used with a power board with multiple appliances with safety within the capacity of the inverter.

A power board (Orange Box )is under development that will come in both 15A and 10A that will be fitted with the technology that allows a connection to a 10A supply giving 2x10A outlets and 1x15A outlet to allow 10A outlet generators or mains supply to be connected to a caravan inlet thus assuring lagality and safety controlled by a 10A URCD.

The 15A unit will have multiple 15A outlets and controlled for safety by a 15A URCD.
