Nuvi 3780T - How do I get it to read map sets off the mini-SD card?

Hi All,

I have a new Nuvi 3780T, and cant seem to get it to recognise map sets on the SD card. I have a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx and used a mapset on miniSD when I was on Europe and US this year and it recognised them and worked a treat. Now when I copy the map set to the Nuvi it wont read them? I reckon I have the mapset filename correct, cause it worked on the 60CSx.

How do I get that to work, or for that matter, Shonkymaps? Can I load that on the Sd card and get it to recognise them?

Thanx for the help?

Hi Bonz
I have not had a play with the new 3780T but if it is like all the other Nuvi's this should sort you out.

Power up your unit and when you come to the very first page before you select anything, touch the following and it will get you going:

Tools
+
Settings
+
Map
+
Map info
+
Deselect the City Nav Aust and NZ
+
Select your new Map file
+
Back until you reach your main page. When you go to your Naviagtion page you will now be using your newly added maps.

Try this and you will be up and running in around a minute.

Cheers

Stephen

Hi Stephen, I tried that and the other map sets arent shown in the select screen, so does it just search then for a mapset and find them?

I should have stated that you can only use the Garmin CD once for a copy and it will only work on the first Garmin GPS unit that you put it in. If on the other hand it was purchased as the Micro SD Card, then it will work on any Garmin GPS and not locked to the first unit that it is inserted into. You do exactly the same for shonky and it will work also.

Cheers

Are there restrictions with the size of the MiniSD card? The 60CSx only likes up to 2 gig and I have a 8 gig in the Nuvi, I want to put the US and UK maps on the one card

Hi Bonz
I am not sure re the maximum size that can be loaded but somehow I think from memory it is only 2gb???

Lets hope that Doug T or The Explorer will come to your help.

Sorry that this is all I can offer.

Cheers

If you installed the map correctly then like this, (should be same as the 765)

1...Tools
2...Settings
3...Map
4...Map Info
5...Untick CN and tick the map you want to use.

Another way would be to follow the instructions in the Owner manual

Forgot to add,....if you don't untick the CN installed map it will always over ride any added maps you install.
