Craig,
Have to ask the obvious question - has the dashboard button been pushed in?

If not then check the switch and wiring under the dash.

If that is ok then it will be something to do with the actuator on the top of the transfer case. The CDL light is turned on by a switch at the end of the shaft that actually moves to lock the dif. Check that there is no strange fault with the dashboard light first.

To check if the CDL is actually engaging you need to jack up one side of the car front and rear and rotate one of the wheels. I am sure you can work it out.

I had a problem with my CDL actuator due to water but mine was the opposite - it would not engage.

Hey Craig.
Did the CDL engage all by itself or was it engaged by the button?

If you have driven on paved road with it on it will "bind up" the drivlen which will need to be released.
If you jack up one wheel and you notice it turn a little as it lifts from the ground you may find the CDL will then disengage.

CDL button was out, but my wife was driving when it happened so who knows?
Anyway i selected the CDL button a few times and I could hear the actuator running,
I was not sure so i called a 4WD mechanic, obviously he didnt say to much... I was going to take it down to him, When i reversed out of the driveway it disengages the Centre diff lock, Amazing hey??
So i didnt need to take it to him..
On a different question, where can i get all terrain tyres as a reasonable price$$$??
I currently using 270/70/16..
Any ideas?

Craig,

If you find an answer to that one you could let us all know.

Glad the CDL cleared itself up.

Thats normal. If you lock the centre diff on a paved road, you'll get wind up and might even break a few bits in the driveline - so don't do it!
Because of the wind up, the centre diff won't disengage. You can unwind the wind up by reversing the vehicle as you have now discovered.
