Something similar happens to me with sex - my wife seems to not want it in months that have a vowel in them !!

Kangaroo meat works very well doesn't it. We did very well at Cobdogla, Renmark, Loxton with similar numbers. The kids have drop nets and just love sitting watching, lifting, dropping a million times a day!

If you don't have access to Kangaroo meat, calves liver or similar works well too I've heard.

Roo meat works very well and so does lots of other things like cat food.
Technically speaking, you can't use Carp as it's illegal to return them to the water. Even cutting them up and using in a yabby net as bait has been construed by some fishing inspectors as returning them to the water. The reason is that the carcase or part thereof may contain eggs which when fertilised will become carp. The opposing argument is that the eggs are not fertilised until released by the female but you will be arguing with a Fishing Inspector on that one.
Another off side is that when using Roo meat, you will need to have your sales docket with you to proove that you bought it. Cutting up road kill and using that as bait will cost you as well.

Best bet is to make friends with your local butcher!

Have been trying to get some info on camp sites up that way Dasher, somewhere that a 2 wheel drive car and van can get into and has a reasonable supply of wood for a camp fire within a 2-3 km radius and can park and camp by the edge of the river(or creek) and launch and moor a car topper boat from the bank.....toilets or power not required as we have our own.. any where..Berri , Loxton, Barmera, Renmark....just for a change of scenery...cheers

Access to most spots are all OK with a 2wd and a car Topper unless it rains over about 6mm, then even a 4WD has problems with the sticky clay.
easiest are the National Parks either Kataraptko Crreek just out of Berri or Lock Luna near Barmera are good places. Chowilla just north of Renmark is good too but the roads are all dirt getting there.

I hope you had a good time away over the Easter Break. Speaking of Fishery Inspectors, we were told that their were 3 up in the Riverland during that break and were having a field day. In the hardware store, one of the sales staff was telling us some of the reasons why people were getting fines, and it was a real joke.

ps. I was able to get that book that your daughter was going to try and get. The only place in the Riverland was the Renmark to the Border LAP. The project manager has given me details of another great site, like the one that I took you to a few years back, so get in practice of a good paddle next year....LOL

Thanks for that Dasher...but a small problem...they are good spots as you mention , but being game reserves and/or national parks you are not allowed to collect firewood...legally that is ....be just my luck to get all set up, cut a load of wood and along comes Mr Ranger and slaps me with a fine for my trouble...the paying bit it is not a problem...but fines are...cheers
