Generator Power

The generator, which was discovered by Michael Faraday, is an ingenious device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.

Hi, I`m looking at buying a small honda generator.
just to run a 20amp 3 stage charger which consumes around 200 watts.

Am looking at a EX 500 2 stroke, but concerned about noise and smoke
and can`t find a decibel rating for it. But it is small and light.

Next option is the EX 700 which is well pricecd second hand, but it seems to be the same size and weight as the EU 1000 .
So I might as well buy an EU 1000 ?

Would anyone have a decibel rating for the EX 500 ?
Smoke issue is probably not a concern as I have already contributed with solar elect and HW after 15,000 grand.

EX 500 and 700 - Old technology
Stick with the Honda or Yamaha 1ka inverter units.
4 stroke motors, quiet, economical, clean power.

why just honda/yamaha wot about all the other well know brands & dozent it come dowm to how much you use it $$$$$$$$$

Yep and it also concerns how reliable you want it to be, after sales service and resale value. As atated stick with Yamaha or Honda and you wont go wrong.

I agree Dennis & Jason.
A mate of mine was telling me how he got his generator for about a tenth of the price of mine........no need for an expensive one he thought?
Then our power went out for 3 days and his wouldnt start so we had to run mine for a tank full on my freezer, then take it to his place for a tank full.

Good enough for fishing though he reckons.......
He serviced it ,changed the fuel and checked it all out.....works fine....took it down the beach, fired it up,....runs like a dream .......for about half an hour!
Probably a good thing really cause who wants a noisey, rattly generator screaming in your ear when your fishing?

Maybe crap in the tank? Puts a filter on it and throws it back on the ute......
Now Im not sure as I didnt go fishing with him last weekend but when I went to feed his horse last night his generator was laying on its side on top of an old lawn mower and other crap next to the feed shed........Im guessing it didnt work again??/ LOL

Noise levels of power generatorsIs this any good to you?

It might help to give a bit more info.....eg. Where and how often are you going to use it.

hi Mr Brush, while reading your post i see you have a 20 amp charger that only draws 200 watts. It might be worth just checking the consumption specs again as last week i bought a 7 stage switch mode 16 amp charger and that draws 750 watts and the 35 amp switch mode charger in my caravan draws 1450 watts. It would be a real bugger iff you bought a 550 watt geny and it did not run your charger. safe travells. mm

yes you could be right. I checked the specs and it reads output 250 watts.
My 15amp charger states output 200-220watts
I`m now assuming I have misinterpreted what it means.
I can`t seem to find anything on it`s input wattage it only says 210-250 volts
I think I`ll be safe and go for The EU1000.

I have a Honda 10eui to charge aux. batteries with a 20a. switch mode charger (running as I type this at a free camp near Karratha)
The INPUT to the charger is 240v. @320w. This certainly makes the generator work, I would not want it to be any smaller. If I also connect in the onboard van charger to its battery the engine revs kick up and the noise decibels also.
Anything over a 25a. charger I would say a Honda 20eui for sensible noise comfort levels.
As an aside, the sbove 20a. charger plus 2x12w. 240 low energy globes uses 0.45l./hr. from the Honda.
