I've got a GU and Outback Accessoires roller drawers system and I've encountered with the problem of installing the child restraint.

After reading the archives, searching the internet and calling to the manufacture I've found that there is no legal solution to this problem, so I called to RACV and they advised me to call Blane Tomson (1300 728 363).
This guy installs legally approved bracket which goes between the cargo barrier and drawers and it has 3 anchorage points. The cost is ~$250 + drawers refitting $60

Has anybody heard about this guy and these brackets ?

Cheers,
Dmitri.

Hi Dmitri,

Haven't heard of this guy specifically, but there are numerous child restraint fitting stations that can provide and fit anchor points where the standard ones cannot be used or to fit approved anchors to older vehicles that do not have them. These stations are usually licensed by each state's motor transport authority (eg RTA in NSW)

If he's a licensed fitter, and it sounds like he is, you should have no problems.

cheers ... Savvas

Hi Savvas,

It's not so easy - I didn't mention, that I've already visited RACV depot, which is specialised in child restraints - they said that the only thing they could do for me - just remove the roller drawers. Nice and simple solution, isn't it ? :))

Cheers,
Dmitri.

That's bizarre. There must hundreds if not thousands of 4b's out there with storage units and baby restraints fitted.

Personally, I think the manufacturers of the storage units should be designing allowance for these into their products.

There has to be ways, call other manufacturers, you cant tell me with the 1000s of overpriced storage units sold a year, that none have child seats in the cars that need anchor points..

It 'could' be they put it in the "we have your $ we dont care" basket.

I called to 4WD Interiors - the answer was straight and simple - "we know that this is illegal to use standard anchorage points and drawers, but everybody does it".
Also, they told me that they are going to release in 2004 the solution to this problem - the bracket which mounts on the cargo barrier (sounds very strange to me).
Anyway, it looks like most of the people use child restraints not in a legal way and manufactures don't give a chit :(

Cheers,
Dmitri.
