Hi all,
What is the correct way to wire the Anderson plug, for the trailer, to the car battery system.
I have dual batteries with an isolator.

Hi Ian,

Pretty simple installation so here is a diagram

I have not specifically shown the earth or neg wire but a good chassis earth at the back of the car is good enough provided a good chassis earth is pressent at the Aux battery

Sorry Bruce but you need to run 6bs TWIN not single from main to Aux and to Anderson plug, there is to much chance of a bad earth thru the body of the car and trailer. A lot of fridge complaints are caused by poor wiring. Barnray

That was what I thought I should do but nice to get confirmation.
Also thanks for the info on connecting the ends.
Now to buy the stuff.

Ian I recommend you get the bits from your local autoelectrician as mine was a lot cheaper than superdear or repco. I paid around $8 for quality anderson plugs and his wire was cheaper than most as well. He should be able to supply all your bits and peices.

I just checked out ABR Sidewinder and they have everything at a reasonable price as well

Make sure you fit the +ve connector into the +ve marked section on the Anderson. Real easy to get one set wrong/swapped frack to bunt.

Double check all connections with a multimeter first before EVER plugging the Andersons together. Not a pretty sight if you inadvertently got it wrong.

Hundreds of amps running in a dead short circuit. Make sure both/all +ve connections to batteries have a heavy fuse in them so IT will blow and avoid the flames.

All the earth cables will have to be the same size or bigger if you want everything to operate properly with out troublesome voltage drop causing insufficient charge to batteries and poor performance of appliances.

Diagrams are very clear and no doubt will be very useful.
I had an Anderson plug on my previous car mainly to power the boat winch.
I installed it same 10 plus years ago and have just sold that car.
I wish to put plug on new vehicle but I'm getting old and can't remember the circuit breaker capacity I used.
Can't find current draw on winch but it pulls max 4000kgs.
I would be great full if you could advise the circuit breaker amps I will need.
