While roaming around Australia in my caravan I took a 2 KVA honda with me. Certainly it was a great
generator and I have no complaints.
Yesterday I was roaming
Home Depot ( as in the US hardware store) and ended up in the
generator section. I was checking out prices for generators. Not the cheap chinese ones but the main brands. A 3.2 KVA portable
generator was $349. A 10 KVA portable was just over $2000.
So why are 3 KVA generators 6 times the price in Australia? It cannot be shipping as Australia is closer to Japan than America.

A recent article by Choice magazine found that Australians are getting ripped off bigtoime for the price we are paying for electronic equipment. Personally I feel that we are getting ripped off for just about anything we buy. Living remote I buy a lot of the internet and the one big joy is that stuff from overseas gets here twice as quick as stuff ordered from interstate. Our retailers here will not survive in the future if they do not start trying to compete with internet business,s. Its all very
well to say buy Australian but we are pricing ourselves out of the market.
I would have no hesitation buting a known product from overseas.
Have a look at how much a 40 litre engel costs..about $1200. I can go and buy a large family fridge/freezer and still have change left over.. Its called "ripping off".

I just decided to go shopping for a Honda
generator on line. The amount of information I had to enter to get a price was enormous. At first their computer would not accept my address and I actually have an address in the US. Finally I got a price and it is the link below.
A EU2000 Honda is $1149 in the US and shipping is $6. ( not to australia however).
No doubt all this is designed to stop people in Australia from shopping on line and by passing Asutralian prices.

The Generators from the USA are not suitable for use in Australiia. They are 110VAC 60Hz and the sockets are not the same as used in Australia.
YOU CANNOT USE THEM so its not "Horses" for "Horses"!

Sorry I did not realise it cost more to manufacture a 240 Volt
generator than a 110 volt.

Not only do you have to ensure you get a 240Volt output but you must also ensure that the AC is 50Hz (this is what we have in Aust) as all power in the US is 60Hz.
Its not a matter of manufacturing cost, a 240Volt 50Hz output requires a different
generator to 110V 60Hz.

There is an online company that will process stuff bought in America and post it to anywhere in the world. This gets around some online companies only posting to an American address.

I have just ordered a Weber Baby Q from the States and delivered it is $68.00 cheaper than what I could buy here. Absolutely bl**dy ridiculous.

Things may be cheap in the US but freight costs to Australia are very high and in most cases exceeds the cost of the goods.

Not in my experience, I have even seen the top of the range Weber that sells here for 5000 but can be landed here for under 3000

I think everyone has lost the post plot here.
Honda generators are made in Japan.
Then exported.............everyone folowing so far?
US dollar and Australian dollar the same
US further to ship than Australia.
Australian identical
generator twice the price than in US.
Australia getting ripped off!
Seems simple!

I am happy with my Honda 2kv and to be warranted Australia wide if anything goes wrong with it...It hasnt missed a beat over 4 years.
If you think you are being ripped off walk away..
