Is your sat system a UEC VAST decoder? If so follow the procedures on the Austech Forum VAST tuning procedure The VAST system tuning/info channel is 8.

By the way the satellite you need for Australian TV channels is C1, which is on a heading of 7 degrees.

If it is the Aurora system I can't help. The Aurora system will close by the end of 2013 so VAST is the only real way to go now.

If you have a iPhone or Android phone you can get a few apps that will locate the Optus Satellites for you.
Google sat finder or dishpointer.
Main one at the moment is C1 later to be D2
The apps will give you all the co-ordinates and also give you a sighting of the sat as well.
I use Dishpointer in my Galaxy phone.

Just to be pedantic, it actually D3. SBS moved to D3 a couple of months ago. C1 and D3 are co-located so the location figures are the same.
One thing to be careful of with the smart phone apps is that the LNB skew is not always correct for Ausie satellites. One finder I found to be good is included with Wikicamps.

Bill the information you have given indicates a poor understanding of the basics – it will be difficult to instruct you over the internet.
Do yourself a favour – go to a caravan park and pick out someone who has a disk set up and ask for a demo. Most travellers are glad to help.

Hi Bill,

Assuming the connections are correct and you are seeing the set top box logo etc on your telli, you may be pointing to the the wrong satellite. Optus D1 is close by at 160 deg East. You need to lock onto C1 which is 156 deg East. The basic analogue meter can be a little misleading for the novice. Other satfinders can be set to locate C1 only. Many on Ebay or try www.Satplus.com.au they are located on Nepean Hwy Edithvale. I get al my gear there. Philip is very helpful.

Cheers

Try "Hills Gemine Satellite Dish Alignment Settings". It gives settings for all of Australia.

Hi Bill. Is your vast set top box activated? It needs to be reactivated every 6 months. Merry Xmas Brian
