There is a faint
junction off the Towlers Bay Trail at this point heading south down to a
lookout known as Birnie
Lookout that offers exceptional
views over
Pittwater. If you use the
EOTopo map you'll find this marker at the
track junction, but there's also a discreet cairn on the side of the firetrail but its easy to miss due to the low shrubs covering
the entrance. It is narrow and a bit overgrown but fairly easy to follow. You only need to go a few hundred metres and you'll get the first view over
Pittwater. From there, if you're lucky you may spot some
rock cairns and white tape marking the track as it descends through the low scrub. Keep going until you find the picnic bench on a
rock jutting out with the most magnificent view over
Pittwater.
