Dover is located at the head of Port
Esperance Bay on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel south west of
Hobart and just south of the Huon Valley. It is part of the Huon Valley Council with a
population of about 500. Its history suggests involvement in the whaling industry in the later 1800s. It is said to be the last place to fill your petrol tank when heading further south.
Today, Dover supports an oyster industry, operated from
the wharf at the harbour. It has accommodation and is a gateway to part of Southern Tasmania's mountainous hinterland.
