WA born Bob Cooper first started conducting Bushcraft and Survival Courses in the early eighties these have now evolved into the very successful and popular Outback Safety and Survival and Advanced Survival Courses.
People who attend these courses have come from overseas, interstate and all walks of life from the young to retired. All with a keenness to learn from experts how to have a safer and more enjoyable experience either camping or travelling not only within OZ but also abroad, where the same survival principles apply.
Bob is supported by a small team of male and female senior survival instructors each with their own teaching style and expertise in different aspects of survival. This group of instructors have now completed over ninety of these courses with some great feedback from people who have actually been in stressful and potentially life threatening situations and due to the bush skills did not turn their mishap into a tragedy.
Many more people have changed their lives with the self confidence gained from these courses and that says Bob is one of the true rewards for the people teaching and sharing their knowledge and own experiences on these courses.
The average age on these courses is thirty five and the % of women now attending courses has on several courses outweighed the male attendees, because women are now seeking the knowledge to either travel themselves or need to be sure of what to do if their partner becomes ill or injured.
The Basic Survival Course is always conducted over three days, Friday being the classroom theory sessions followed by the practical phase in the beautiful Dwellingup forest just south of Perth. Even the short walk into the base camp becomes a lesson in stellar direction finding and night vision and once seated around the campfire on the log seats of Bob’s classroom he explains the ‘rules’ of etiquette around someone else’s campfire and our responsibility for minimum impact when enjoying the great outdoors.
