Bridgestone tyres advice please

Hi guys,Im up to replacing my tyres on my gq patrol.Got a flyer on Sunday for Bridgestone Dueler 604v ,cost $159 per tyre are these tyres any good ,most of my driving is on dirt rds when we travel.or on sand when we go fishing and surfing

A mate run Tag a long tours and off road (4WD) driver traing and runs the Bridgestone 693s on his Patrols and seems happy with them.. I think the 693 has been superseded by the 694. Also, the Aussie made Bridgeys are stronger made than the Jap versions.

Gday uppy,

Have a mate with Duelers which he uses for mainly sand and dirt. He's not exactly happy with the performance but the price is pretty much unbeatable...

He found the wear a little uneven and the rubber hardens fairly quickly affecting wet road performance.

Just called him, he got 65,000 out of the last set, but like I said, he does mainly offroad work.

They retail for $255 per tyre, I can get them for $210. I'm sure someone else could beat that, but that's what the guy I have dealt with for years quoted.

The 604v is the Desert Dueler which has been around for quite some time.
A very capable tyre mate.

I bought a set (3) for the Camper Trailer about 8 months ago and the price then was $168 per tyre through the Bridgestone Dealer.

I run Dueler 694's on the Jackaroo, but actually like the look of the Desert Dueler tread pattern better.

As far as the Desert Duelers are concerned, I don't think its appropriate for me to comment as I only have them on the Camper at present.
A mate on mine has a second set on his Rodeo, having got 70,000 out of his first set.

As far as the 694 Duelers go, I have no problem with them on bitumen or dirt, wet or dry. Have done about 35,000 on them and they have plenty of tread left yet.

But, if the 604's are still available come replacement time, I'll seriously consider them. As I said above, I like the look of the tread pattern.

We still run the orginal tyres on the Rodeo Ute...Bridgestone 693. Have found them to be good in a wide range of driving conditions. Recently in the Macdonnell Ranges West of Alice Springs, driving along a sealed road I had the misforntuate to drive over a Tent Pole...2 metres long. Couldn't see it in the shadows. The Tent Pole came up the back and went straight through the sidewall casing of the unused spare (Bridgestone 693). This would never happen again in a billion years. The interesting point is that I had all sorts of trouble locating another Bridgestone 693 in Alice Springs. Finally got one for $265...had no choice but to buy it. Now I could have bought plenty of Bridgesone 694's but they are rated at 107 whilst the original 693's are rated to carry 111. I have been lead to believe that Insurance Companies will not insure the vehicle if I was to change to a lesser carrying capacity tyre.
It was an interesting experience an although unlucky at the time it could have been a lot worse..

If I was you I would go for the 694's. The 693's I have fitted on my 60 series Cruiser & you will find they will scrub out in the centre of the tyre due to weak belts across the tyre face regardless of tyre pressure. I have just fitted 694's to my Terracan & they are a much quieter tyre all round.( the 693 problem is well known). I think Bridgestone must have given Nissan a good deal on them as I noticed the new Patrol have 693's fitted as standard.

693 problem???? Never heard of that one. And yes there is a big difference between the Jap tyres (I guess the OE on the Patrols) and the Aussie made ones. If you're scrubbbing out in the centre- could be a high air pressure problem.

Pray tell what vehicle your planning the 604 on ,,, all the above replies refer to 693 and or 694 duellers ,,TOTALLY different tyres to the 604 ... cost price on 31x10.5x15 is $185 per tyre ,,, thats NO markup ,retail for same STARTS at $220.

You are looking at my spare lol. The damage was caused by a dueler throwing the tread. Done 8000km and Bridgestone turned their noses up. Now running BFG's. Damage was $2800.

I had the Desert Dullars on the Surf, they were a tough tyre and took a pounding. They performed very well at low PSI's too. Pretty good on gravel, in fact pretty good is a description of them that's fair. Price is excellent.

Bad points I found with them:
-They get very hard and brittle quickly.
-They seemed to wear a little unevenly on the front end, even with wheel alignment etc in check.
-Absolutally disgracful on wet roads, might as well remove the brake pedal from the car in winter, cos you won't need it anymore. LOL

They are probally the best value tyre you could get your hands on, they are reasonably tough and not too bad on dry roads and gravel. Just about every toyota ute up north of WA is running them in the mines, so they can't be too bad eh!? ;-)
