Where is THAT Video - Part 2

Submitted: Friday, Dec 02, 2005 at 09:17

Member - Ivan (ACT)

Thanks for the links guys - was able to send it back to my offsider who was showing me stills of the same slope - the video has SO much more effect ;-)

Next one - does anyone have a link to THAT video (I think it is the demo from Safari), where they have a 4wd crossing a river and the water is well over the bonnet - car loses traction, gets traction and then drives out - amazing bit of footage..

Call me silly but surley no one expects that you can drive a car across a creek with water across the bonet like that and it wont get hurt?
The car in that video must have been set up specifically for it.. What about the water cracking the head, stopping the fan etc when the engine bay fills up.. fair enough with a snorkel the water isn't going to go inside the engine, but there are a lot of other things that can go wrong..
To the novice, it looks like all you need is a snorkel and away you go.. you could practically submarine the vehicle as long as the snorkel was sticking out.. good luck...

Yup - I'm calling "crap".

The snorkel head goes UNDER that surface on numerous occaisions. Don't tell me that the water it injested under vacuum didn't kill the engine - unless the engine was OFF untill they made higher gound.

When you look at it, the Safari goes into the water as well. Amazing, I want one, it can tell the difference between water & air

A few years back now there is a quite famous picture of the cape with peter on one of his trips very early season of a 80s
It has been in 4x4 Australia many times.
The water is about 50mm under the collar of the snorkel.
And yes they did make it.

All the best

geocacher (djcache) replied:

Yeah and then there was the GU tray (I think) in last years Outback Challenge. All you could see was the snorkel and it didn't :o)

They did fix it and run the next day though, I'm pretty sure.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll bet someone has pics. I may still have somewhere. I'll look.
