Camper water tank level indicator

Hi all,

Has anyone fitted one of the blue oval shaped tank level indicator I've seen on several campers?

I can't find a decent web link on them.

I read somewhere that you don't need to pull the tank out to fit it. I'd also like to know if they work alright.

Anyone got one or know if they have a web site??

Hiya Dave
you could make one by using a T in the filler hose and run a length of clear plastic hose up the side of the van .only needs to vert small diameter stuff and pit a cap on top with a very small hole for breather or some mongrel could p*ss in it, I check my tank for level with 2m piece of garden hose , just hold the end up and when water flows over the top , thats the level

Yeah I could Doug. Very true. Gotta say I hadn't thought of that, even though that's how I do the tank in the back of the ute. Duh. Why didn't I think of that?

I really like the look of the other gadget, and I'd have to find somewhere to put the tube as the tank is subfloor. Could be awkward.

I've got one of those Doug. Works real good.
When I can't get any water out of the hand pump, I resort to a backup supply.
Doesn't happen very often though.

I generally only use the on-board water for cooking and coffee making and dish washing (usually once per day) so 59 litres lasts a fair time.

I don't want to crack down unneccesarily as it is hard on a 2 y/o who is loving camping but doesn't yet understand that we didn't bring the mains water supply from home.

I have 2 fitted in my troopy and work well as:
1. my tanks are black, impossible to see a level
2. built in beneath the false floor of the troopy, hard to see level in filler hoses.

Easy to fit when the tank is empty but still in place with long wires to the display gauge by the back doors. Expensive (about $60-70 each) but very good, I was never able to estimate to water left with any accuracy before and would run out on long trips but it is far more managable now.

Mine is in and working well.

The burgundy with gold trim looks out of place in our camper but I couldn't wait for one in blue and white to come and the local bloke had one in stock.

What a great device. Simple electronics but the probe really is quite clever.
