Its in for me. I just bought an 80 series with BFG's on it and if the white lettering was facing out I would have paid somebody to change them.

Ok so cosmetic I take it. I had the special wheel balance done on mine by Bob Jane where they spin the tyre on the rim to balance it better some thing like that. My mate had a vibration in his patrol and after getting this done after I told him about mine he said the vibration has totally gone. Was an extra $16 per wheel. Rip off or not ?? dont know but have no vibrations through steering but didnt before getting the bf's fitted so not sure but worked on the patrol after he had just a normal balance done. I would never waste a Friday night sitting in front of a computer, hence my staying quiet. To be more truthful 2 of the said tyres are still on the vehicle being used for to and from work duties and have done about 25,000 now but will not be used for our next trip.
Reason, one of the tyre lugs split right down to the steel belting on the Gibb river road. Went to make a claim only to be told that this is normal wear and tear. Yes I know I have told this story before but when people rave about a product it is also important to have a look at the support from that company, in my case I got none at all.
I don't follow all that business about BFG's and which way round the tyres were. I have my tyre's fitted by professionals and I trust them to fit them properly.

This re-call is for tyres made in 2002 . I don't think there would be too many of these running around now - if they were , they definitely were not faulty !

I had the same experience......original tyres supplied didnt last long....even with very very little offroad stuff.

If I buy a 4x4 for travelling, towing work then yes I would care, but my 4x4s do this and what they're designed for. And I wouldn't be riding around on bugger all tread.
I bought an 03 Hilux Sr5 v6 new with the standard Bridgestone Dueler HTs on them. They were crap. I seriously got 27,000kms out of them before almost illegal tread depth. Mine is the V6 and I don't drive slow, so maybe that had something to do with it. I then bought Cooper ATs and got 40,000kms out of them. I then changed to Cooper STTs and got approx another 40,000kms out of them. I now have new Cooper STTs and it has 115,000kms total. I like the STTs.
On my Prado I replaced the standard crap with BFG AT and love these tyres. In my opinion they are better than Coopers. I don't know how many kms I've put on them. Its an 04 petrol Prado with 113,000kms and have done thousands of off road kms on the BFGs. Quiet and impressive grip. Just thinking though - i might have 40,000+ on these since June last year and they're in pretty good nick. I might get another 10,000 or so.
You can have them when I'm finished and get another 50,000kms on them.....

I agree with cookymonster. If your tyres have 5mm tread left, they are more than due for replacement. For on road they are legal but regarding safety I would imagine they need changing. Would you be confident taking them on a dirt road or a long trip?

Also regarding tyre age, I believe the rubber starts to deteriorate after about 5 years so are probably not that good for trailers either once you have "finished" with them.

Looks like they're not that old by the tread that seems to be left on them. I had a set of ATR's that the sidewall started to part company from just under where the tread ends. Started peeling all the way, they had only done 5,000k.

At least Coopers replaced them for me at no cost had them transported from Brisbane to Derby.

Did they replace those for you at no cost? I've had 2 sets now one on my previous vehicle and gave them another go on my current vehicle, problem with one of them to so I don't trust them anymore.
