Have a look in "TSETUP". Its accessed by pressing ESC during startup. See if there are any options in there.
I access the power options on my old Tosh by right clicking anywhere in the background, and go to "Properties". Then click Screen Saver and have the following settings for mapping:
Screen Saver - None
Energy Saving Features of this monitor: Plugged in I select "Never" for all 3 boxes
Then press "OK" (and not "apply")for each of the screens so the new settings stick.
I'm guessing you've done exactly the same :-((
If none of that worked, I'd reformat the computer.

"Does the screen turn off when you close the puter ??"
In the "power management properties" screen, click on the "advanced" tab and you'll find all the choices there. Mine is set to turn teh screen off when folded, so the computer keeps running.
