Snaggles,

I have a canvas 1200mm x 1200mm Southern Cross bag and found it to be very suitable for what you intend to use it one for.

They are also need to be seasoned similar to canvas tents etc when new.

Hi Kev,

are you aware if they make larger ones as i have a roll-up queensize matteress and considering an Oztent which are 2m long and would like to get it in it too.

on a slightly different note do you know of any gas bottle attachments that might fit to ARb roof rack?

I think they make full length ones for the ARB rack.
Check their website out for dimensions.

Also look at the Rhino website for gas bottle holders that should suit the ARB rack. A cheaper alternative is to use a milk crate.

Snaggles,

I recommend you to rethink the idea of putting the Oztent inside the main bag.

The Oztent comes with its own waterproof bag and is best placed along one side of your roof rack, rather than trying to slide into the packrack bag.

I strap our Oztent alongside the mesh tray supported by the two rails and also the side of the tray itself. Easy to lift on and off and is secured by a pair of lockable, cut proof straps.

The canvas packa bag I use is for storage of the swags and other camping gear like chairs, tables (all foldable) and anything else that fits.

In my case, both the Outback Mesh Tray and the Canvas Packa Bag are local South Australian made products obtainable from SunShade Products/Roof Rack World in SA.

I would assume other Roof Rack World outlets would have the same, or similar products and because they are specialists in roof racks and accessories, they offer sound advice on what works and what doesn't, what is practical and what is not.

Cheers,
Bill

In addition to bushranger, southern cross and infront, there's also msa, danbri, freedom camping and a mob on ebay (search for roof bag ... name is tonnos'n'stuff or similar) that make roof rack bags.

I have a bushranger and it has been good but considering a bigger canvas job. I'm a little concerned about the canvas being waterproof if the bag is not 100% full but I've been told that heavy duty canvas is the way to go.

I had one custom made by Outback Canvas / Campers in Carrum Downs ( Vic).

It is excellent quality, heavy duty, and they were very helpful. Much cheaper that SC who IMHO trade on their name.

It is only 100mm high at the front and 350mm at the back so it is like a big wind foil. It uses a lot less fuel than my old off the shelf one and exactly the right width.

I don't know why they aren't all like that.
